Healthy Food - made with Paper mache

Fruits made from Paper mache
October 2013

Vartika got vacation project but her teacher told us this project is for parents and they have to prepare. Theme was healthy food vs junk food. So now the thing was what to prepare and also should represent the theme correctly.
Search started on web search and ideas started coming. During that time I was watching ART ATTACK and learned how to make things from paper mache. So, thought to make the fruit and junk food samples from paper mache.

Steps to make paper mache stuff

1.       Dip some newspaper in water for a day.
2.       Next day drain out the excess water and mache the newspaper. Take a bowl and add mache and fevicol in it, and mix properly. Make smooth dough by mixing the mache and fevicol.
3.       Now it’s time to make proper shapes from that mache.
4.       Started with banana, then apple, tomatoes, orange, carrots and for junk foods candy, pizza, doughnut, coke bottle.
5.       Place them on a plastic sheet after making them so that they don’t lose their shape and let them dry for a day.
6.        Now it’s time to give artistic look to all the stuff so that they look real. You can use any acrylic paint color to paint them.
7.       Once they are done leave them for few hours to get dry. If needed you can paint another coat if the finish is not ok.

Other things

1.       For milk bottle I made a small carton of milk from any old carton.
2.       Made 2 small pouches of dal.
3.       Chips with simple chat paper and then curled with pencil to give the zig zag look.

For the project I made it like a weighing balance where healthy food is heavy compare to junk food.
