Wax diyas

October - 2014
Bangalore

While I was working in aricent next to our building in delta block there was lifestyle office and they had put a sale of there products which were not sold out in there outlets. One of my friend came to know about the sale. We went there and the things were lying down very badly as they are of no use for them but still they were selling at good price. We 3 friends went there to check our luck if we can get some good stuff in low cost. The manager asked us to come next day as it will be open to all the sigma people.
We went next day for window shopping but end up buying some good old stuff in a very low price.

I got these glass diya set of 4 each costing me Rs 20. Price tag mentioned was Rs 99. I was happy:)
This was a story of Aug-2012. That year we put oil with small wick and lighted them.

This year I want to do something different. Though and thought then thought to make was diya. But how I don't have any wax making material. Idea came in my mind. I have been collecting left out wax. So thought to melt the wax and make the new candle. I have to try and test it so I tested with one. Made one diya and lighted it. Wow it was awesome it came out to be wonderful. For around 3 hrs it was burning continuously… now there was one problem which I face during testing was the wick was not standing erect when wax melted and I have seen in tea light they have one small hole and flat support to hold the wick. But at this moment from where I will get that I don’t have any idea.
Now I started searching for the alternative how to make such a thing which will not get burn with wick and also support till the wax ends. I searched many things at home but didn’t find anything good. Now my creative mind started working I took aluminum foil and makes many folds so that it becomes stiff. Then made small-2 pieces so of diya’s size and made a hole and pushed the wick inside it. Now my wick was standing. Then I melted the old wax with different color and filled these small diyas. When they cooled down I sprinkled some glitters on it to make then beautiful.
See how beautiful they are looking.

Rangoli for diwali 2013

Rangoli for diwali 2013
November -2013
Bangalore

This diwali I had lot of time as compare to my previous diwali's. Diwali is full of colors, decoration and lots of preparation of sweets etc. This time I wanted something to be made by vartika.. she is growing and love to do activities.
So I tried to make a rangoli from patters which vartika can make and can be placed in any form. Got the idea from craft kit. So I made the shapes from cardboard and asked vartika whether she want to make it. She said yes and want to make it at that time itself.

Steps to create beautiful pattern rangoli which can be used again.
1.      Cut the shapes are per the design. I have choose one in which there is one square piece and 4 heart shapes and 4 mango shapes.
2.      Now it’s time to color the pieces there are many ways which you can do it. I applied glue on one side of the pattern and asked vartika to sprinkle the rangoli color on top of it.
3.      Once it got dried up take a newspaper and turns the shape upside down so that extra rangoli fall down.
4.      You can use different colors for different pieces as you want your rangoli. Here’s your creativity comes.
5.      Once it got died up now you can further decorate you rangoli with glass and crystal stickers. You can put some glitters too.
Now your pattern is ready. You can use it in any way with some flowers around it or with diyas.
